Case Studies

Becoming a Volunteer with 9th Muswell Hill Scouts is easy

below are some case studies from the leaders and supporters of 9th Muswell Hill Scouts.  As you can see they come from all walks of life. So if you can give an hour a week or an hour a month then we have an opportunity for you

Derek Chambers – Scout Leader and Acting Cub Scout Leader

I am currently the Scout Leader at 9th Muswell Hill as well as running the cub pack since the previous Cub Leader returned to South Africa three years ago.

I got involved with scouting when I was 8 years old via my next door neighbour who was the leader of the local cub pack at the time, and really enjoyed the experience and the camps.  I have since gone through the movement being a Cub, Scout, Venture Scout (before it became Explorers) and then on to be a venture scout leader then scout.

Now I am nearly 40 and still enjoy camping and the various activities such as crate stacking, climbing and archery etc. Having fun and being part of the adventure is not just for the young and is very rewarding when you see them grow up, progress and become really confident just by having fun (and even come back as your Assistant Scout Leader for a while).

Over the years of being a leader I have had a couple of jobs including working for a company that supplied and fitted security equipment such as CCTV and electronic surveillance equipment, before starting up my own business offering web design and internet consulting company.

Volunteering as a leader/helper is a very rewarding experience and you can give us little or as much time as you wish.  Visit www.scouts.org.uk/join for more info
